Starting on the 1st of January 2026 we proudly present Lucía Cócera Ortega as our Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Lucia brings exceptional expertise in biotechnology innovation and broad experience working with AAV technologies. Her leadership has enabled the creation and testing of controllable systems regulating gene expression. Besides that she brings enthousiasm and humour. Her leadership in Summa Biotech will be instrumental as we continue advancing our technology!
New partnership with EPFL Lausanne and Maastricht University
Another exciting milestone to close out this impactful year: we are proud to share that Health Holland has awarded our BELLINI project under the TKI-LSH EUREKA Cell and Gene Therapy Call 2025.
In this project, we focus on developing a cardiac gene therapy that can be switched on or off when needed. Unlike existing approaches, this will allow doctors to control the duration of treatment and prevent serious side effects. Our work plan combines cutting-edge genetic engineering, drug-responsive control systems, and advanced laboratory heart models to create a therapy tailored to the complexity of heart disease.
We are very excited to collaborate with the groups of Bruno Correia at EPFL Lausanne and Leon de Windt at Maastricht University to drive endogenous cardiac regeneration with this new generation of gene therapies.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Federica De Majo PhD as our Chief Scientific Officer.
After more than two years of working at Summa Biotech with outstanding contributions, leadership and innovative ideas she has proven to be more than capable of taking on this important role. With Federica guiding the science and bringing her molecular biology expertise, we’re ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Together, we will keep moving the mission of cardiac regeneration closer to reality.
